As a breakout session from Ignite North 2021 - Forestry & Mining on 18 May we will discuss how tech can be an enabler in the industry. 

The discussion will cover the following topics:

  • How can we together solve the technical and sustainable challenges for the mining and forestry industry?
  • How can research, Startups/SMEs and industry collaborate.
  • How can we use the ecosystem and boost pilots and projects with real values for the customers - we will deep dive into a few examples to create real value and possible future collaborations.
  • Financing opportunities for tech collaborations between Sweden and Canada
  • Technology areas such as; Automation, Predictive maintenance, AI

Plus pitches from Forest and Mining-related startups and scaleups.

    P.Eng, MBA, Senior Advisor at MaRS Discovery District Clean Tech

    David is a Senior Business Advisor in the MaRS Discovery District Clean Tech practice supporting 50+ start-up clients and teaching MaRS business and entrepreneurship programs to students and entrepreneurs at innovation incubators and universities across the province. As well, for the past decade, he has consulted in strategic growth management and business process improvement for both commercial and not-for-profit clients. David has held executive roles as President at Sprint Canada telecom, SVP at Direct Energy, founding President of Empori.com, VP at Bata and country manager for Labatt. David spent more than 10 years working internationally in Latin America, Europe and the USA. More recently, he has held interim executive roles for Strategic Business Transformation at a number of clients including Sears, CIM, IceGen and Cavet Technologies.

    An active community volunteer, David is an elected Governor of the University of Toronto, spent 12 years as a Director and Board Chair with Habitat for Humanity in Canada, an international volunteer strategy Advisor at CESO and a Director of the Bata Museum. In 2013, David completed the ICD (Institute for Corporate Directors) NFP Governance program. He is a certified off-road motorcycle instructor and completed part of his Rotman MBA in Spanish in Chile. Hobbies include long distance motorcycling, snowshoeing, travel, hiking and construction projects. He holds an undergraduate Industrial Engineering degree.

    Regina Summer
    Program Director, Vinnova

    Regina Summer has more than 20 years of experience from working in the Swedish innovation system from both an academic, a business and a public agency perspective. Her previous position was as head of unit Green growth and innovation at the Swedish Agency for regional and economic growth. Today she is Program Director for the bilateral innovation collaborations with Brazil and Canada. She is also responsible for Sweden Innovation Days and the coordinator for Vinnovas participation at the world exhibition, EXPO2020.

    Project Manager, The Cluster of Forest Technology

    Anneli Lundmark has worked as a project manager for the past two years at The Cluster of Forest Technology where her main focus is initiating new projects by supporting start-ups and small and medium-sized businesses. By striving to shine light on the whole forest value chain and enable technical and sustainable development in every step of the chain, she is contributing to maintain the competitiveness of the Swedish forestry model.

    Katelyn Petersen
    Ph.D. Executive Director, Enterprise Europe Network Canada

    Katelyn Petersen has managed the German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research since 2014. In this role, she has coordinated the Enterprise Europe Network Canada consortium since June 2020. Katelyn is passionate about creating opportunities for technology development and economic growth through international collaborations. Prior to assuming her role at the GCCIR, Katelyn worked as Regional Coordinator for Europe at University of Alberta International, where she managed the university’s partnerships and initiatives with European institutions. Katelyn completed a Doctorate in contemporary German literature at the University of Alberta and the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich as part of a Joint Degree Program.
